From a young age, I have always appreciated Interior Design and admired the architecture of buildings. Through the Honours Bachelor of Interior Design program at Fanshawe College, I was inspired further by biophilic design, sustainability, and unique design styles within spaces. After graduation I aspire to work on designing projects in commercial, retail, and residential design. I am passionate about continuing to learn how to create beautiful environments that can benefit the health and well-being of occupants in the space.

Encouraging Biophilic Design in Health and Wellness Centres to Improve the Mental Health of Young Adults

Mental health conditions and illnesses have grown rapidly among young adults and following the pandemic have increased even greater. These conditions are said to affect a large percentage of the population who are exposed to negative impacts in public environments everyday. This project focused on creating a Health and Wellness Centre that aims to encourage biophilic design in each space to improve the mental health of young adults. The goal of the design was to not only create a space that embodies biophilic design and its properties of healing; but connect young adults through a sense of community, therapy, universal design, and featured spaces that benefit health and well-being for the user. The spaces offered are a fitness room, yoga/meditation room, therapy rooms, a biophilic room that also can have multiple creative uses, a cafe/bar, lounge seating, and a multi-media mezzanine.
