As a first generation student, coming from the small town of Orangeville Ontario, I had no idea what my passion was. I took the one-year Design Foundations course at Fanshawe, and that is where my love for Interior Design had sprouted. Throughout the four years in the Interior Design program, I have grown branches of passion for all aspects of the profession, but I have a strong interest in human-centric design, user wellness, and sustainability. Moreover, I thoroughly enjoy designing residential spaces where people spend most of their time. I aim to make a difference with my designs, and I would like to create an experience for my clients where I can positively affect their lives.
Encouraging Mental Health in Youth Through the Design of Community Recreational Environments
This project proposes the design of a new youth centre in London, ON. ‘Starseeds’ are fictional microorganisms that seed planets with new life; Starseeds Youth Centre will use this concept to empower youth to seed themselves in order to overcome tough issues within their lives. Additionally, the centre will embody the phrase ‘from earth to energy,’ by using architecture as an art form to create a space that will promote healing - from the earth to the user. The act of using nature as medicine has been around for a long time, and healing crystals date back thousands of years. The incorporation of natural elements will bring positive healing properties to the physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing of all users. Moreover, Starseeds Youth Centre will provide tranquility for youth by implementing familiarity with technology, artistic activities, and calming colours. The experience will also promote friendship and belonging for guests to manifest a connection within the community. Furthermore, the chosen materials, finishes, furniture, and equipment will embrace privacy and variation to create an inclusive space for all youth who are experiencing mental distress.
