Hello everyone! I am from Norwich, Ontario, a small town just east of London. I have always had interest in interior design because of the exploration of creativity and helping individuals by creating safer, healthier and more comfortable spaces for everyone. I enjoy both residential and commercial design and after I graduate from the program, I will be aiming to complete the NCIDQ examination. I also hope be LEED and WELL accredited in the future due to my high passion for sustainability and improving the well-being of users.
Designing a Health and Wellness Centre to Promote Independence in Seniors
Undoubtedly, health and wellness centres for seniors are becoming increasingly important with the rise of the senior population. Since seniors are living longer, healthier lifestyles, designing a health and wellness centre for seniors will improve the health, wellbeing and independence through the incorporation of sustainability and biophilic design. Designers must create spaces that improve the quality of life for seniors to keep them happy, healthy, connected to the community and living independently for as long as possible. Therefore, these spaces must be safe, functional, welcoming and universal to accommodate for a variety of needs. So, flexibility in sustainable, durable, cleanable materials and function will provide an inclusive environment for all staff and seniors aged 50+, and the space will be easily comprehensive through recognizable wayfinding techniques. Public and private areas emphasize community connections and contribute to meaningful experiences that promote belonging, choice and independence to improve the quality of life for all members and staff.
