Julie Pedlow

My passion for interior design began at a young age as I started expressing an interest in creating visually aesthetic spaces and assisting friends and family in developing their ideal interior environment. I have always been a creative individual and choosing the Interior Design program at Fanshawe seemed like the natural next step following high school. I am striving to specialize in commercial design with a primary focus on accessibility. I am so grateful for the support and guidance that this program has provided, and I look forward to developing my skills further as I enter the professional career.

Designing An Inclusive Workplace for Individuals with Disabilities

Having a disability is becoming more common and talked about in today's society; therefore, creating workplaces that provide individuals with the opportunity to gain both skills and independence is important. By establishing feelings of empowerment within the workplace, individuals are bound to feel more connected and included. Through flexible private and public areas, adaptive technology, and improved communication methods, employees with disabilities, as well as all other occupants, will feel a sense of belonging thereby creating a sense of place within the space. Serendipity, an inclusive cafe operated by those with disabilities, will encourage the public to participate within the space and be inspired by each others' differences and abilities. For the employees, the space will provide opportunities to develop everyday skills to further gain independence. Serendipity- the place where everyone belongs.
