Unwind: A Third Space for Connection and Personal Retreat

Rina Sun

I’m passionate about designing spaces that shape how people experience and connect with the environment. I enjoy exploring ideas through sketching and visual thinking, using creativity to translate concepts into thoughtful spatial experiences. I’m particularly interested in atmosphere, materiality, and the small details that influence how a space feels. I’m naturally curious, enjoy learning new things, and find great satisfaction in using design to support and improve people’s everyday experiences.

Designing Innovative, Functional & Inspiring Spaces

Unwind: A Third Space for Connection and Personal Retreat

This project explores the idea of a contemporary “third space” where people can pause, reconnect, or simply exist between the routines of work and home. The design balances openness and retreat through layered spatial zones that support both social interaction and quiet reflection. Natural materials, soft lighting, and organic forms create a calming atmosphere, while a tree-inspired staircase becomes the central element that connects different levels of activity. The space encourages visitors to choose how they engage with the environment, whether gathering with others or finding a moment of solitude.
