Un Hogar en la Distancia

Melanie Veloza

For me, design is an art form that crosses creativity and technical principles, where precision in spatial planning meets imagination. I believe beauty in interior environments emerges through thoughtful arrangements of space, light, color, and material, creating experiences that are both functional and emotionally resonant. The built environment becomes a language, a tool to respond to and evoke feelings in its occupants, shaping how people move, interact, and connect within a space.

Community Centre for Latin American Peoples with Integrated Social Services: Fostering Cultural Continuity and Connection

Un Hogar en la Distancia

This community center acts as a spatial bridge between memory and new beginnings, supporting Latin American peoples and immigrants as they navigate transition without losing cultural identity. Organized around a central courtyard, the design encourages gathering, dialogue, and shared cultural rituals. Grounded in principles of semiotics and interactionism, the built environment communicates meaning through spatial organization, materials, and forms inspired by Latin American architecture and interior aesthetics. These elements foster familiar cultural cues and social interaction, creating a space that supports cultural continuity, connection, and community resilience within a new context.
